It helps to include your iPhone model, your iOS version, and what you were doing when the problem happened.

Adding music

TempoTwist plays audio you already have. There are several ways to bring it in:

  • Import from FilesTap +, then Files, to pick audio from the Files app, iCloud Drive, Dropbox, or Google Drive.
  • Use the sound from a videoIn Photos, share a video and choose TempoTwist, or tap +, then Video from Photos. Videos in Files work too.
  • Open in TempoTwistFrom another app, use the share sheet and choose TempoTwist.
  • AirDrop from a MacSend any audio file from your Mac to your iPhone, then import it into TempoTwist.
  • Record itTap the microphone in the library to capture a riff, a lesson, or a song playing on a speaker.
  • Your own and royalty-free musicUse files you own or tracks from royalty-free libraries.

What can be imported

Works

  • Audio files you own: MP3, AAC and M4A, WAV, AIFF, FLAC, and Apple Lossless
  • Videos such as MP4 and MOV: TempoTwist keeps their sound
  • Your own recordings, made in the app

Doesn't work

  • Songs from Apple Music, Spotify, YouTube, or other streaming services. They are copy-protected, so they can't be imported.
  • Other copy-protected files
  • WMA, Ogg, and WebM files, which iPhone can't play. Converting them to MP3 or AAC first will work.
  • Videos with no sound

If a file is stored in iCloud Drive or another cloud service, make sure it has finished downloading to your iPhone before you import it.

Pro and purchases

What is free, and what is Pro?

Free, with no time limit and no ads:

  • Vinyl-style Re-Pitch and independent speed and pitch controls
  • Play audio at 50% to 200% speed
  • A-B looping, waveform zoom, and precise controls
  • Import your own audio files, including FLAC, and record with your microphone
  • Background playback and Lock Screen controls
  • Unlimited tracks with saved per-song settings

Pro adds:

  • Save and name multiple loops per song
  • Mark sections to jump between moments
  • Higher-quality audio stretching with the Studio engine
  • Detect BPM and musical key when the audio allows
  • Export an entire track or a selected loop with your changes applied

What are the plans?

Three, and the Pro screen in the app shows current prices: Annual, which starts with a 7-day free trial; Monthly; and Lifetime, a single payment with nothing to renew and nothing to cancel.

How does the free trial work?

The 7-day trial comes with the annual plan. If you do nothing, it converts to a paid year automatically when the week is up. To avoid that, cancel before the trial ends in the Settings app: tap your name, then Subscriptions. You keep Pro for the rest of the trial either way.

How do I cancel?

The annual and monthly plans can be cancelled any time in the Settings app: tap your name, then Subscriptions. Cancelling stops the renewal, and you keep Pro until the current period ends. Lifetime is a one-time purchase, so there is nothing to cancel. Apple explains every way to do this in Cancel a subscription from Apple.

How do I restore a purchase on a new iPhone?

Tap Restore Purchases in Settings, or Restore on the Pro screen. Make sure you are signed in with the same Apple Account you purchased with.

Can I get a refund?

Purchases are made through Apple, and Apple handles refunds. See Request a refund for apps or content that you bought from Apple, or start a request at reportaproblem.apple.com.

What happens to my saved loops if Pro ends?

You keep them. Saved loops and section markers stay in the app, and you can still use, rename, and delete them. You just can't create new ones until you subscribe again. Nothing you made is deleted.

Common questions

What is the difference between Vinyl and Independent?

Vinyl changes speed and pitch together, just like playing a record faster or slower. Independent changes speed without changing pitch, or pitch without changing speed. It's handy for learning a part, singing in a comfortable key, or just hearing a song differently.

How do I rename a track or edit its details?

Touch and hold a track in your library. Choose Rename for a quick title change, or Track Info, then Edit, to change the title, artist, album, and artwork.

Why is the BPM or key blank on some songs?

That is deliberate. TempoTwist shows a tempo or key only when it is confident, because a wrong answer is worse than none. Some music genuinely has no single answer: free-time or rubato playing has no steady pulse, sparse or intermittent drums leave too little for the tempo to lock onto, heavy 808 bass adds harmonics that mask the real third, and some Latin and flamenco basslines sit on the fifth rather than the root, which hides the key. Tap the info icon on the BPM and key chip, or go to Settings, then Help, then "About BPM and key", for the same explanation in the app.

Why can't I export the demo track?

The demo is licensed for use inside the app rather than for redistribution as an audio file. Anything you import or record yourself exports normally.

Where are my files stored?

Everything stays on your device, inside the app. Deleting the app deletes its library, including anything you recorded in it.
